Our 2020 Benefit Report

In 2020, we were proud to become the first social impact PR agency to register as a Benefit Company: a for-profit company committed to conducting its business in a responsible and sustainable way.

As a Benefit Company, we are held accountable for assessing our company’s performance against a third-party standard. Yulu assesses its impact through B Lab’s B Impact Assessment, and this year we were proud to not only re-certify as a B Corporation, but to increase our overall B Impact Score to 89.5 points.

ECONOMIC BENEFIT

Yulu was one of the first 30 organizations in Canada to register as a Benefit Company, reinforcing our ongoing, company-wide commitment to use business as a force for good, by holding our directors and business practices to higher purpose-driven standards.

Yulu worked with Community Savings Credit Union to launch the 7:01 Movement – a campaign decided to encourage the general public to move beyond clapping their support for long-term care workers during COVID-19, and instead sign a petition calling on provincial government to pay these workers a fair wage.

ENVIRONMENTAL BENEFIT

Yulu worked with Nexii to boost wider awareness of the damaging environmental impacts of the global construction industry, while championing a more sustainable solution to create greener buildings.

Audible and Yulu are building a nationwide mentorship and writing program for emerging Indigenous writers, which will connect participants with well-known and established First Nations, Metis and Inuit writers and creators, learning from them and building their skillset and platform.

In close partnership with Vancity Community Investment Bank (VCIB), Yulu coordinated an external equity, diversity and inclusivity training workshop, which was open to all organizations in the community. The free, external workshop meant that all businesses – regardless of income – had the opportunity to participate in EDI training.

Yulu led a strategic process with the Canadian Council of Forest Ministers and forest sector to unite 80 stakeholders behind a communications platform that educates consumers about the sustainable and innovative forest practices that take place in Canada.

In partnership with the BC Women's Health Foundation, Yulu developed a communications campaign called #WeSeeYou to raise awareness of the disproportionate impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on women. This campaign was covered by all local TV stations, including Adrian Dix's daily briefing.

Yulu proudly volunteered for the My Vote Project, training the next-gen of comms professionals how to pitch media. This resulted in coverage on NBC, educating U.S. citizens on this nonpartisan education platform for voters to use before heading to the ballot.
