Conservation & Biodiversity PR Agency for Land, Ocean & Nature Protection
Strategic communications for organizations protecting biodiversity, restoring ecosystems and advancing land and ocean conservation.
Yulu is a conservation and biodiversity PR agency helping nonprofits, foundations, research institutions and community-led organizations build public support, earn credible media, engage communities and rightsholders, strengthen donor visibility and communicate complex environmental work with clarity.
That work can mean building support for a local restoration project, helping a conservation nonprofit reach donors and journalists, or bringing young people into the search for ocean solutions. Our approach starts with the science, the people closest to the issue and the action an audience can take.
Protecting nature takes public understanding and participation
A conservation announcement is only one part of the story. Strong communications explain what is at stake, why a proposed response matters, who is involved and how people can participate. They make ecological evidence accessible while respecting community knowledge and the relationships required for lasting stewardship.
Yulu works with conservation nonprofits, research and policy organizations, community groups and environmental innovators. We shape narratives, identify the right audiences, prepare spokespeople, build media relationships and design campaigns that connect attention to informed engagement.
Who We Work With
Conservation organizations need communications that reflect both the ecological challenge and the decisions that determine progress. Yulu works with organizations protecting ecosystems, influencing policy, mobilizing resources and creating opportunities for informed public participation.

What Is Conservation & Biodiversity PR?
Conservation and biodiversity public relations is specialized strategic communications for organizations protecting land, freshwater, oceans, wildlife and the ecosystems they depend on. It combines credible science storytelling with media relations, public education, policy communications, community participation and campaigns that help people understand what protection or restoration requires.
Conservation organizations often need to communicate more than a single announcement. They may be introducing new research, seeking sustained funding, explaining a proposed protected area, engaging people affected by a restoration project or building support for long-term environmental stewardship. Effective communications connect the evidence to the decisions, partnerships and public actions that can move the work forward.
Yulu combines issue-led impact consulting with public relations strategy, helping clients clarify their objectives, understand the audiences and rightsholders involved, and build communications grounded in evidence and meaningful participation.

Where Conservation Communications Get Complicated
Conservation campaigns can involve scientific uncertainty, different timelines for ecological change and public decision-making, land-use concerns, competing policy priorities and communities with distinct interests or rights. A communications strategy must make these realities understandable without flattening disagreement or presenting future benefits as proven results.
- Translate ecological evidence without overstating conclusions: We help organizations explain what research establishes, what remains uncertain and why findings matter for a specific audience. Communications should distinguish evidence, projections, organizational priorities and desired action.
- Build trust around conservation decisions: We identify whose participation matters early, including communities affected by land or water decisions and Nations or other rightsholders with distinct rights. Engagement is not a substitute for consent or a final promotional step.
- Connect conservation priorities with funders and decision-makers: Different audiences need different levels of technical detail and different reasons to act. We develop clear narratives and communications pathways for journalists, philanthropic supporters, policymakers, research partners and communities without changing the underlying facts.
- Sustain attention beyond the launch: Habitat protection and restoration unfold over years. We build communications around meaningful milestones, credible spokespeople, partnership updates and opportunities for participation so momentum is not dependent on a single announcement.
How We Measure Conservation Communications
Conservation communications should be measured against the outcome the communications are intended to support. Depending on the mandate, Yulu tracks media quality and message adoption, community participation, donor engagement, resource use, spokesperson visibility, stakeholder and rightsholder engagement, event participation and sustained attention to conservation priorities.
We distinguish communications outputs from ecological, policy and funding outcomes so clients can see clearly what the communications program influenced and what requires longer-term measurement.

Conservation PR questions
How can PR support a conservation campaign?
PR can help a conservation organization explain the evidence, reach relevant media and decision makers, engage communities, and sustain attention through milestones. The right mix depends on the change the organization is working toward and the people who need to be involved.
Does Yulu work on both land and ocean conservation?
Yes. Our work includes land conservation with The Nature Trust of BC, ocean health programming with Ocean Wise, estuary restoration communications with the Squamish River Watershed Society, and environmental cooperation across North America with the CEC.
How does Yulu approach community and rightsholder engagement?
We begin by understanding whose knowledge, interests and rights are involved. We then build communications and participation opportunities around the project’s context, rather than treating engagement as a final promotional step. The Squamish River estuary project is one example of that approach.
Conservation & Biodiversity PR FAQ
Consider specialist communications support when announcing significant research or conservation milestones, preparing a fundraising or public-education campaign, aligning partners, entering a high-scrutiny policy conversation or needing consistent visibility beyond a single press release. The right scope depends on your audience, timeline and desired action.
Yes. We work with experts to translate technical information into accurate, accessible stories for journalists, decision-makers, funders and communities. We preserve uncertainty and context rather than turning preliminary findings into definitive claims.
Yes. Our support can include narrative development, issue education, spokesperson preparation, coalition messaging, media engagement and public-facing materials. Clients and their policy or legal advisors remain responsible for the underlying policy positions and technical claims.
Environmental PR covers a broad range of environmental issues, technologies, policies and sustainability initiatives. Conservation PR focuses more specifically on protecting and restoring ecosystems, species, land, freshwater and oceans, often connecting ecological evidence with community participation, public policy and long-term stewardship.
Yulu supports communications and engagement work involving Indigenous Nations and rightsholders where invited and where the scope, consent, decision-making authority and cultural context are clearly defined. Our role is to support the people and organizations leading the work, not to speak on their behalf.
Yulu can help clarify a conservation case for support, explain the significance of protection or restoration milestones and develop donor-facing narratives and outreach. We align communications with the organization's actual fundraising strategy and evidence, rather than promising that coverage will produce donations.
Yes. We can help partners align around shared objectives, develop messaging and approval processes, identify audiences and clarify the distinct roles and perspectives of participating organizations while preserving their independence.
