Yulu PR Named ‘CSR Agency of the Year’ at Ragan’s 2022 CSR & Diversity Awards

Yulu PR recognized for its hand in helping support emerging First Nations, Métis and Inuit writers.

July 22, 2022 – New York City, NY — Last week, Yulu Public Relations was recognized at Ragan’s 2022 CSR & Diversity Awards, taking home the title for ‘CSR Agency of the Year.’ A four-time recipient of this honorary title, Yulu was recognized this year for its involvement in helping elevate Indigenous voices in the literary landscape through its work with Audible.

Yulu PR, a social and environmental impact communications firm, spearheaded a first-of-its-kind mentorship program for emerging Indigenous writers in Canada for Audible, creating a culturally relevant and safe space for them to elevate their craft. The agency designed the Audible  Indigenous Writers’ Circle (IWC), which pairs writers with Indigenous mentors — themselves celebrated Indigenous literary artists — who coach participants through the creative process. Participants also benefited from immersive workshops with some of the industry’s leading creators.

It was crucial that First Nations, Inuit and Métis voices lead all aspects of the program, to ensure its cultural relevance. Some of the ways this was realized include:

  • Engaging author and journalist Tanya Talaga as lead mentor during the program development phase and following mentor leadership at all stages
  • Including an Indigenous cultural consultant at the onset of program planning
  • Working with Indigenous peoples or Indigenous-owned or affiliated organizations wherever possible
  • Providing Indigenous cultural competency training to all Audible staff and Yulu team members involved in program delivery
  • Together, Audible and Yulu made space for emerging writers and their mentors to create community and elevate Indigenous voices within the literary landscape.

“We’re honored to be named PR Daily’s CSR Agency of the Year, especially given the many impactful campaigns submitted this year,” said Annalise Moore, Director of Yulu PR’s Consumer Impact division. “Working with the Audible team to bring the IWC to life has been a truly rewarding process, and we’re thrilled to see the incredible opportunities that have resulted for the very deserving participants.”

“Yulu’s global expertise and skillful execution of the IWC was essential to the success of the program, which we attribute in large part to their talented team, thoughtful approach, and commitment to cultural authenticity,” said Georgia Knox, VP, Canada Country Manager at Audible. “The team’s support was key in helping us leverage Audible’s resources to support emerging First Nations, Métis and Inuit writers.”

“Powerful Indigenous stories have existed since time immemorial, and with the IWC we are creating space and making tools available for First Nations, Métis and Inuit writers to share their important words with new and wider audiences” said Tessa Danelesko, Senior Account Manager for Yulu’s Environmental and Social Justice division, and Audible program lead. “This is one example of how impact relations and communications can be used to create some of the meaningful systems change needed to make the world a more equitable place.”

“Yulu PR set themselves apart from an outstanding field of entrants. Their work was exceptional and displayed their innovative strategies for achieving success. Congratulations, Yulu. We look forward to your continued success,” said Brendan Gannon, Senior Marketing Manager for Awards Programs at Ragan Communications.

Ragan’s Corporate Social Responsibility Awards celebrates teams, organizations, and consultants who have redefined the field with their groundbreaking work. As a winner in the program, Yulu PR joins an elite group of past winners, including Alex + Ani, International Paper, St. Joseph’s Health, Bayer CropScience, Arrow Electronics, Alliance Data, Viacom, U.S. Bank, and Toronto Pearson Airport.
