Meet Bohlale, Account Coordinator
Bohlale comes by his activism and civic engagement honestly – he cites his mother, activist and former Ambassador Nozuko Bam as his greatest inspiration and the driving force behind his unyielding desire to see a more just and equitable society. Born and raised in South Africa, Bohlale spent four years living in Korea but now calls Calgary home. He is the Co-founder of the Black Inclusion Association, a nonprofit focused on achieving equity and social justice for Black Calgarians through the bolstering of Black art, intellect, voices and opportunities.
What brings you joy?
I’m a part of Calgary’s incredible ballroom community so hosting balls, workshops, and having fun with an incredible group of voguers I also have the pleasure of calling friends brings me such joy. When I’m not spending my free time with the ballroom community, I’m probably taking a walk to the park with a good book.
What social issue or cause are you most interested in?
Climate justice has always been an important social cause for me. I strive to develop feasible and fair solutions that include the perspectives of those who have been historically underrepresented. My ultimate goal is to create a more sustainable and equitable future.
What parts of your work are you most passionate about?
I love to collaborate with clients who not only appreciate the importance of community, but wholeheartedly embrace it. Combining my academic pursuits with my background in communications and non-profit work, I’m all about effecting significant and positive change alongside like-minded clients who share our values and goals.
What brought you to the Yulu team?
I joined the Yulu team because of their mission to create a more just and equitable world, grounded in social impact, sustainability, and justice. Yulu’s commitment to these values has always been a source of pride for them, and it continues to inspire me to work towards a better future.
