Michelle Yong

Visual Storyteller

As a communication designer, Michelle weaves together photography, illustration and typography to create narratives that are both meaningful and compelling. With a solid foundation in design research she brings an understanding of human-centred design principles to all that she does. Drawn by Yulu’s social mandate, Michelle joined the team as a visual storyteller—launching her first foray into the world of public relations.

She graduated with a shiny new degree of Communication Design from Emily Carr University of Art + Design in 2015 and has been busy crafting user experiences for start-ups and non-profits alike.  In another life, Michelle was an avid painter and printmaker, and holds a Bachelor’s of Fine Arts from the University of Alberta. Nowadays, she finds that hand lettering and illustration strikes an enjoyable balance between the world of visual arts and graphic design for her.

When not designing, Michelle spends her time looking at playing the cello, looking at internet cats and watching copious amounts of cartoons.
